About this event
I began woodworking class at MDAE in 2017. Despite a total lack of technical knowhow, I loved wood and the idea of making stuff interested me.
That the lumber I brought home didn’t come flat and square came as somewhat of a shock. It turned out to be the first of many surprises. What happens to 4/4 poplar left in a hot car overnight was one of my earliest lessons.

As a beginner I did not show promise. But the feel of wood, the smell of it, the beauty and variety of creations made from it kept me coming back for more.
My house and patio are gradually filling up with my furniture experiments, some more successful than others. I’m lucky to have a big shop at my home with lots of tools and the time to use them. MDAE and Diablo Woodworkers are more important than ever as I continue to develop as a woodworker. It gets more fun every day.
During the Shop Tour, Vicki will demonstrate principles of bent lamination and discuss the construction of Michael Fortune’s Garden Chair featured in Fine Woodworking magazine issues #240 and #241. The photos below are of the Michael Fortune garden chair that she made and will be discussing as well as a table and sideboard that she recently made.
