About this event
Ed Steffinger grew up surrounded with tools. His father was a home builder and had a well-equipped workshop at the family home. While the other boys played sports, Ed learned to cut, shape, join and turn wood. Some early projects were an 8-foot picnic table which converted into a bench.
After graduation, Ed’s career took him overseas and he lost access to his father’s shop and tools. Eventually he settled in Connecticut and started from scratch acquiring wood working tools and machines. Ed created tables, benches and other furniture, mostly in the contemporary style. He came to California in1985 and converted a two-car garage into a workshop. To this day, Ed still misses his dad’s workshop.
He joined Diablo Woodworkers in 1998 and has been active contributor to both the school and the club. His community service projects include the Adirondack chair project for Camp Okizu and the annual Maloof-style rocking chair. The Maloof project was a major fundraiser for the school and the club over several years.
At MDAE, Ed taught beginning wood working, router operation and safety, office accessory projects and home improvement. He took classes with James Krenov at College of the Redwoods in Northern California where he built hand planes and a cabinet on a stand.
